About the Journal
Journal Priorities
The electronic Financial Navigator Journal (selected edition) is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes original scholarly manuscripts on current issues in the field of digital finance. Its mission is to provide a platform for innovative ideas, stimulate academic debate, and reflect contemporary achievements in economics and finance.
The main objectives of the journal are:
1) To contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of digital finance.
2) To promote collaboration between students, researchers, and business entrepreneurs.
3) To provide a platform for sharing best practices among academia, the business sector, and non-governmental organizations.
History of the Journal
The journal is published by the Center for Financial Research and Development (CFRD) at the University of Economics – Varna. Its first issue was released in 2015, nearly two years after the establishment of the CFRD. Its initial goal was to promote the research work of university students in the field of finance. For ten years, the journal successfully attracted high-quality manuscripts, covered significant events organized by the student community, published all essays from finance students who won top prizes in academic competitions, and provided many young people with confidence and motivation for further development.
In 2025, the Department of Finance at the University of Economics – Varna launched a new project, initiating the annual conference on "Digital Finance." The Bulgarian Fintech Association was invited as a co-organizer of the event. The conference organizers and the head of the CFRD decided to transform the Financial Navigator Journal, giving it a new format and direction. By focusing on digital innovations in the financial sector, its creators turned it into a next-generation publication.
As a result, from 2025 onward, the journal became the official publication of the Digital Finance Conference (DFC), inheriting the traditions of the student journal issues published between 2015 and 2024. The journal continues to be published in electronic format, but now exclusively features the conference participants' research papers. It is published once a year (in May), in English, and is aimed at researchers, young scholars, and students interested in digital financial technologies.
Distribution of the Journal
The journal is open access, meaning that its entire content is freely available to users. They have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, or use it for other legitimate purposes without requesting prior permission from the publisher or the author (Budapest Open Access Initiative, BOAI).
The Financial Navigator Journal is indexed in the Central and Eastern European Online Library (CEEOL), Google Scholar, and Research Papers in Economics (RePEc).
